About Me

Picture
I was born in La Habana, Cuba many years ago (exact date not necessary to know).  Maybe because I was born on a Caribbean island explains my love of the sea and swaying palm trees. Who knows? Anyway, it sounds romantic. My early years were spent as a gypsy living in different places. After fleeing Cuba, my father's work took him to Europe and Puerto Rico, and our family, including the dog, tagged along. Needless to say, 'permanence' was not one of the words in my dictionary.

Fortunately, some years later, my father was transferred to Miami, staying long enough for me to meet and marry my husband. I married young and stupid, but my husband, who was older and wiser, knew I had potential and patiently waited for me to grow up. Not that I have, but he thinks so! Along the way, I had two wonderful children-- A daughter, who is an editor, and writes and plots better, much better, than I do. And a son, a chemical engineer, who is very funny and has a great sense of humor. I also have two adorable granddaughters, Cat and Nat and a son-in-law, a journalist, who has written 3 books.

I consider Miami my home, and I love living here. Where else can I go to the beach year round, and get a cafe con leche and guayaba pastelito?

I have always wanted to write. But who had the time? If the economy had not been on a downturn, none of this would have been possible. What else could a college dropout realtor do? Gone were the days of hefty five digit paychecks, of frivolous shopping sprees, and imported French wine with my meals. All of a sudden, my realty world came crashing down. Nobody was buying a house, nobody was selling a house and I needed an escape from reality.

It's incredible how relaxing writing about someone else's love life and problems can be. I completely forgot about mine and concentrated on solving my characters' dilemmas and character flaws. I even managed a happy finale. I do have to give a lot of credit to my two dear friends and critique partnersMaggie Dove and Vicky Cocco. I'm happy to say that Maggie Dove's historical romance ANGEL OF WINDWORD will be published in the Fall of 2009. And Vicky, who has published 4 books under the name of Victoria Marquez, is now writing a new contemporary romance that sizzles.

I am also busy writing my second novel, THE HOMECOMING, which also takes place in Florida in 1896. Some of the characters from my first novel make cameo appearances. Although the housing market in Miami has improved a little, I am having too much fun to quit. For now, I'm willing to make do with little money, drink lemonade and buy second hand.
